Evolution starts with innovation
Amongst the new attractions at this year's Auto Show, the Innovation - Evolution exhibit, presented by Auto Hebdo, is certain to bring back fond memories for some and amaze all the rest! This exciting attraction will group together rare and unique vehicles which have left their mark on the world, with futuristic cars that showcase the evolution of automobiles over time.
We're going back in time with the presentation of some very unique models... Classic car enthusiasts will have a field day! The exhibit will feature seven (7) discontinued models, for your viewing pleasure: a 1953 Studebaker, a 1971 Citroën DS, a 1973 Gremlin, a 1973 Javelin, a 1976 Pacer, a 1979 Pinto and a 1981 Delorean.
Looking to the future and speaking of innovations, the ground-breaking Switzerland company Rinspeed has graciously agreed to export three (3) of its most futuristic and original vehicles, to be exposed at this year's MIAS. Don't miss this opportunity to see what the future might hold for the automobile industry.
As a special treat for this very special exhibit, the MIAS has asked 6th Graders of Greater Montreal schools to participate in an art contest entitled "Draw the Car of the Future", to find out how they envision their future vehicles. The five (5) wining masterpieces, chosen by a special panel, will have the honour of being displayed throughout the exhibit, much to the delight of visitors.
Greener than ever!
Presented for the first time in 2005, the On Route to a Greener Future has kept steadily growing in popularity, thanks to a market increasingly in touch with the environment. For a 5th consecutive year, this section is presented in collaboration with Natural Resources Canada. This eco-friendly segment will consist of two features: the Green Zone and the 2009 ecoENERGY award winning vehicles.
For this 41st Edition, the Green Zone will feature even more vehicles than ever! Eight (8) major automobile manufacturers (Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and Volkswagen) will be on hand to display their ecological cars, each featuring the latest in environmentally-friendly technology. Visitors will also be able to obtain valuable information about alternative energies, green technology and tips about protecting the environment, as part of a concerted effort to reconcile the automobile with the environment.
For the first time in its history, the Auto Show, in collaboration with Auto123.com, will be giving the public a chance to test drive a environmentally conscious, fuel-efficient vehicle. Visitors will therefore be able to judge for themselves the performance of these environmentally friendly automobiles. Of course, places will be limited, even though organizers predict an average of 700 test drives per day! Who will be among the lucky drivers?
The second feature of the Show's On Route to a Greener Future segment will include the presentation of the 2009 ecoENERGY for vehicle Awards, rewarding the year's most fuel-efficient vehicles by category, based on EnerGuide's fuel consumption ratings. EnerGuide is an annual publication released by Natural Resources Canada, which examines the fuel consumption of vehicles on the market.
Amazing race cars
As part of the 2009 MIAS special events and attractions, Dan Mercier, the first Quebecer, and very first Canadian, to have ever win a championship event on the National Hot Rod Association (N.H.R.A.) circuit, will be on hand to present his very special vehicles: Dragsters.
He will be introducing us to two (2) of his amazing cars; including the brand new 2009 dragster he will be using at the start of the new N.H.R.A. season, this upcoming February. It was on board one of these very cars that Dan's team, DM Racing, broke the Canadian speed record with an astonishing performance in excess of 270 mph (425 kph). Don't miss this incredible opportunity to admire these amazing racing machines while they are in town!
Tickets to paradise
You are hereby invited to step into heaven once again by visiting the MIAS' ever-popular 7th Heaven. Give your senses the ride of their lives thanks to this blissful collection of jaw-dropping exotic vehicles: Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati, Maybach, McLaren SLR, Porsche... simply hearing these names is enough to ignite the passions and fuel the dreams of car lovers everywhere! All these incredible models will be presented on level 7 of the Show.
An attraction that will mess up your hair!
This year, the Auto Show has something extra-special planned for your visit to 7th Heaven! Visitors will be able to admire a fabulous private collection assembled by John Scotti Auto and presented by Auto Hebdo, consisting of ten (10) convertibles from the 1950's. This is a collection which is sure to leave you speechless! To find out which cars will be presented at this very special attraction, there is only one thing to do: stop by the 2009 Auto Show's 7th Heaven!
Families come first with the Kia Motors Childcare Centre!
No need for parents to hire a babysitter to visit the Auto Show! They will be able to turn to the services of the free on-site Kia Motors childcare centre, available for a 3-hour time limit for children between ages 2 and 10. Children will be able to do arts and crafts, draw, wear costumes and get fun face painting. What a treat for parents who will be able to relax and enjoy the exhibits and features of the Auto Show for 3 whole hours.
The traditional donor clinic
The MIAS will once again be holding its annual Héma-Québec donor clinic, organized in conjunction with CTV Montreal. Again this year, the event will be held at the Grande-Place of Complexe Desjardins, from Monday, January 19 to Friday, January 23, 2009.
Since the first Auto Show's donor clinic in 1983, close to 17,000 people generously contributed. Last year, we set a 25-year record by receiving 1,045 donations. We hope to see you again this year to maintain this great performance. And bring your family and friends with you. It's a matter of life!
